When starting the season review it is always best to get the worst stuff out of the way first!
Having won the FA Cup on penalties the previous season, the last thing the holders wanted as they were stuttering away from home was the FA Cup spin dryer machine chucking out their ball just after Boltons.
We did manage to successfully despatch Championship side Cardiff in the third round. Robert Pires was the two goal hero in a match which wasn't that memorable.
We have been through the reasons why we hate Bolton so often that its dull now (and they get all grumpy and post nasty things in the comments!), suffice to say that I looked forward to this Saturday tea-time affair about as much as I am enjoying this British summer. i.e. not much...
I think the feeling of dread that I felt when the draw was made was replicated and Arsene Wenger took the opportunity to 'rotate' his squad.
What do I remember of this match (without sitting through it again on ArsenalTV Online...heaven forbid)?
I remember Van Persie going close early on, I remember Van Persie falling over his own feet and I remember Stelios (short-arse) out jumping our defence for his annual goal against us.
I thought the season couldn't get any worse at that stage... we played West Ham at home the following Wednesday (but I will leave that for the Premiership review

)
All in all, it wasn't the best defence of our trophy but we were in the middle of a tricky run of matches and had been knocked out of the Carling Cup the previous midweek after extra time (hardly ideal preparation).
With a bit of luck we might actually beat Bolton next season... here's hoping!
