ArsenalTalk Preview - A result is important, but so is the performance

I suppose it is hypocritical of me to wax lyrical about the importance of the Carling Cup when our club has treated it with such little interest over the years.

But I just feel that tonights match has taken on increased importance in lieu of Arsenal's last two displays.

The CSKA performance was amazing apart from the most important aspect, the finishing. The West Ham display less so but it still had its moments on comedy in front of goal.

I am no Psycologist (in fact I am not even sure I can spell it!), but a solid performance where the players selected take some of their chances will be just what the doctor ordered.

With that in mind I am not so convinced that we will see a team full of fringe players. The simple fact being that most of them are out on loan.

I think we will see a blend of youth and experience, reacting to the likelihood that Everton will be at full strength.

Jeremie Aliadiere will be keen to continue his form in this competition and it may be time to see Denilson or Fran Merida, the latest two of the teenage production line.

Actually I've been a keen follower of the CC for some time now, as it's a chance for those of us who don't get to see reserve and junior games to see our youngsters (when it's on telly :-( otherwise have to follow on ATVO in whatever form we're allowed).
