ArsenalTalk Analysis - Are the wheels coming off?

In the main I can only echo Mystic's comments about the way Arsenals season is concluding.

The 4-1 hammering from Liverpool had been coming, I think we can all recognise that. You cannot consistently be so profligate in front of goal and not expect your defence to bail you out every match. It all catches up with you in the end.

The one area I do differ from the co-Editor on is whether we wait until the end of the season before passing judgement. I have made my mind up now!

  • Arsenal don't have good enough players to be a challenger for the title.
  • Arsenal's squad does not have sufficient quality in its squad to cover injuries.
  • Arsenal's manager still hasn't found that elusive Plan B to unlock teams and give us another dimension.
  • Being the best footballing side in the country is fine when it comes off, but is bloody annoying when it doesn't.
Let's hope this week off will give them all time to sort themselves out before facing the 'appy 'ammers this weekend.

Extensively I agree with both co-editor and charmaine. However, as a transfer window exists that blocks any movements at the moment, I can't see much point in adding my voice to the current criticism - it's not as if AW can go out and make any later season changes.

I still feel that a fit Henry & van Persie, older Walcott, more Premiership experienced Rosicky, and a return of Bendtner would help. A couple of new faces wouldn't go amiss - neither would certain departures - but they need to come in fighting for their places, not as automatic choices.

But talk of strengths and weaknesses is for the summer, after the season has finished.

The problems stem from being consistently poor at defending corners and the inability to profit from our own freekicks and corners.

Too often the delivery is poor either hiting the first man or drifiting over everyone.

Our inability to defend set pieces means that we rarely look like keeping a clean sheet.

In midfield with no leftsided player we are unblanced and with Helb playing poorly we had no wide player capable of going past the fullback.

Despite what Mr Wenger says we need new quality players. A dominant centre half and good winger and a really top quality stiker. Adebayor despite effort will not score 10 goals a season and it is unfair to expect Bendnter to score more than this.

Without substantial investment in experienced first team players we will continue to lag behind the top three.
