ArsenalTalk Comment - Dein's been Tangoed!

I cannot believe that David Dein, the driving force behind the modern Arsenal, has left the club.

A very quick track back has come up with this list...

  • Signing of Dennis Bergkamp & David Platt
  • Recruitment of Arsene Wenger
  • Nike deal
  • Move to Ashburton Grove
  • Entry to the G14
...and I am sure many more that I have missed.

Ok so he was a bit orange, but his relationship with Wenger was pivotal to the success of the club. And despite numerous assurances coming out of Emirates at the moment, I think Wengers position is far from secure.

The general consensus is that a possible takeover by American Stan Kroenke is behind the departure and I have to say that looks the favourite. Maybe Dein has been wise enough to see that further investment is needed to get the Gunners back on track on the field.

Whilst it is an amazing stadium, Emirates has clearly affected our ability to compete in the transfer market prompting our reliance on youngsters. Maybe Dein thought that we needed Kroenke to keep us in the "big 4"...

Either way he has gone now, the board has reiterated its insistence that they stay English owned, which I agree is great in principle, but will it still be practical when the club are not filling the stadium and having another few seasons like this one?

Suddenly one of Dein's greatest legacies, the stadium, could be his biggest white elephant.

Wasn't DD the only board memeber who preferred a move to Wembley as opposed to Ashburton Grove?

Gretings,
Sorry Jimmy u wrong. Ashburton Grove is not a David Dein legacy, he wanted to move to Wembley! However what is a legacy is how he, in theory always as Arsenals official representative is inter-twined into all fings football. Chairman of G14, whatever he is with the FA now, having his son as Terry Henry's Best Man etc etc thats a mess to untwine in it! If we do not see him resign a few posts in the next few days it cos he gonna be back!!!! But, He did sign The Iceman din he! :P

Dein wasn't responsible for the new stadium, he wanted to be a tenant at wembley remember? The other board members made the stadium happen

i dont know a lot of things thats going on at London cos im in Africa Botswana..i am a gunner and if my literature review and all the things i get from breaking news are a thinbg to go by,Double D was using the team to gain personal status and prestige..to hell with the legacies,he wont help us win the league or finish in top four, neither is his American Dollar hungry counterpart..so i say the board did right by shoving it up his....:(;):(

I think DD has not "moved on" from the club as they are saying i think the rest of the board sacked him. and im my opinion, if the roumors are true that he wanted the American takeover, its the best thing the board has done. I would rather we stay as we are and under the ownership of ARSENAL FANS rather then some Yank that hasnt got the slightest idea about english football. David Dein did alot for the club but by wanting to sell to this Dollar hungry idiot then the board did the right thing. I am very much against a takeover bid at arsenal and i think as arsenal fans we should start to make our feelings known to this Yank that he is not welcome at arsenal.

Anonymous - AWB? - its about winning things through effort, not p*ssing about and just spending and buying glory; pointless, boring and worthless. I'd support Kroenke being a minority member on the Arsenal board, with his billions to add to their spending power, but in reality its more likely he just want's ownership of a new franchise for his portfolio.
